Meet lure Olympians

The Botswana Golden Grand Prix is expected to attract Olympians, World Champions and the finest local athletes in April 12 at the National Stadium.
The ambition to attract top athletes has been boosted by the P6 million sponsorship injected by First National Bank Botswana (FNBB) as the event title sponsor.
Speaking at the sponsorship unveiling recently, FNBB chief executive officer Steven Bogatsu said the bank's strategy was anchored on building a future of shared prosperity, which had driven them to do business in a manner that benefited both the bank and the communities they serve. Hew said part of their shared prosperity was demonstrated through their Grassroots to Greatness philosophy.
“We invest our resources to facilitate the progression of young or amateur talent from their current state to their desired pinnacle state, helping, enabling and empowering them to take up space in the global stage,” he said.
The impact of their Grassroots to Greatness philosophy, he said was evident in the remarkable achievements of young athletes who have benefited from the bank’s sponsorship of the national junior football teams and the Botswana Tertiary Student’s Sports Association over the past five years.
"Our sponsorship aims to further reinforce the Grassroots to Greatness philosophy by extending support to athletes as they progress in their journey, fostering positive economic and social outcomes for both athletes and the community,” he said.
Bogatsu said at the last FNB Golden Grand Prix, held in 2023, they had the privilege of welcoming world-class athletes amongst them Sha’Carri Richardson and Ferdinand Omanyala, while also celebrating homegrown talent such as global super star Letsile Tebogo.
“These moments help position Botswana as a key player in the international athletics world. Sport brings people together in ways that few other things can. It creates jobs, fuels local economies, and sparks opportunities,” he said.
BNSC vice chairperson Tebogo Lebotse-Sebego said the stadium track, currently being refurbished, would be ready for use end of March.
She further said she was happy that Glody Dube was finally given back the event rights, and therefore thanked all the stake holders who supported him. For his part, Dube said it was heartwarming to have FNBB coming again on board as title sponsor. ENDS
