Moloi lauds Chiefs tactical performance

Mochudi Centre Chiefs head coach Pontsho Moloi has credited his team’s tactical performance against Gaborone United yesterday evening, stating that the victory would keep them in good spirits as the league marathon intensifies.
Monty Enosa’s solitary goal in the 74th minute was enough to hand the Kgatleng giants maximum points at the GU Stadium and moved them four points behind log leaders Township Rollers. Enosa’s goal came against the run of play after GU had dominated the match.
“Tactically we were very good to absorb all the pressure from our opponents and it was an extraordinary game. I think it was an incredible performance from both set of players and the atmosphere around the stadium was electrifying,” Moloi said in an interview after the match.
He said the football gods were on his side on the day as his team was lucky to keep a clean sheet.
Following a pulsating first half that ended in a stalemate, GU came out in the second half with momentum and looked more threatening with the introduction of Mpho Kgaswane for Boniface Ramolale.
Instead of caving under the pressure, Chiefs stood up to the challenge and it was Chiefs players, urged on by their supporters who celebrated wildly at the sound of the final whistle, much to the distress of GU who suffered their first defeat at their home ground.
So boisterous prior to conceding the goal, the home crowd suddenly sounded subdued as Moloi got one over his former employers with the Chiefs’ gaffer leading the party from the touchline.
Though disappointed with the results, GU head coach Dimitar Pantev stated that it was the game of two halves with a fairly balanced first half and much more, GU dominated the second stanza.
“It was a top game and we could have gone to the interval a goal or two up and also created a lot of chances in the second half, but we were not clinical enough in the final third. It was so unfortunate that our opponents capitalised on our mistakes and scored on a counter,” Pantev said.
He said his side would take the positives from the encounter and continue to fight until the last fixture of the season.
Meanwhile, in another midweek fixtures played yesterday, Orapa United solidified their top eight position with a 3-0 victory against relegation threatened Union Flamengo Santos. ENDS
