The Kanye marathon is back and expected to be better than ever after a successful inaugural event in September 2022.

The marathon, which will held under the name, Community Spirit Half Marathon, will be held on Saturday from 5am to 11am.

“Kanye Marathon was initially named after Kgosi Malope II to celebrate his 10th anniversary as Kgosikgolo of Bangwaketse,” said Oteng Ntshinogang, the coordinator for this year’s marathon.

He added that the marathon had undergone a name change to align with the community values and vision shared by the organisers. Oteng highlighted that Stilistics Sportainment, which was the company hosting the marathon, believed that the new name reflected the unity and collective spirit of Bangwaketse.

He said this year’s marathon would feature a renewed focus on the community spirit of the Bangwaketse tribe and that the primary goal of the marathon was to encourage an active lifestyle, especially among young people.

“Kanye Marathon aims to raise awareness about health issues while promoting an active lifestyle within the community,” said Ntshinogang.

He added that this year’s races include 5km, 10km and 21.1km. In recognising the importance of local businesses, he said they expected them to announce the collaboration they had with small enterprises throughout Kanye, from graphic designers to mobile toilet providers and tent suppliers.

“This initiative not only enhances the marathon experience but also supports and stimulates the local economy. Through events like this, we hope to foster a culture of fitness and well-being within our community, while promoting local entrepreneurship,” he added.

He further highlighted that The BotsGotHustle workshop, which is spearheaded by one of their partners, SRIII Consulting, was a testament of their resolve to work with local and national entrepreneurs. Oteng called on the community to come together, participate, and support each other toward wellness as well as celebrate health, community, and resilience in Kanye.
