Ministry of Minerals and Energy is undertaking 112 villages electrification project, which commenced in the 2024/25 financial year, Minister of Environment and Tourism Mr Wynter Mmolotsi says.
Responding to a question in Parliament on behalf of Minister of Minerals and Energy yesterday, he said the project was expected to be completed in the 2026/27 financial year.
He said Inalegolo was part of the 20 villages considered for electrification under this project. Mr Mmolotsi said Ukhwi, which was 63km instead of 22km from actual connection point at Ncojane, was being considered under the off-grid solar solution programme.
“The off-grid solar solution programme is being incubated and at an advanced stage of planning and will be concluded during 2025/26 financial year, for 6 villages across the country,” he said.
He however, said Ncaang, which was 108km from the point of supply was currently undergoing assessments, which would guide on the best possible way to electrify the village.
On the other hand, Mr Mmolotsi said all villages far from the grid were under consideration for off-grid solutions. Kgalagadi North MP, Mr Reason Lekhutlane had asked the minister to state when Inalegolo, Ukhwi and Ncaang would be connected to the national power grid. ENDS
