President  Advocate Duma Boko left on Saturday for the United States of America to attend the historic launch of Botswana’s first satellite, BOTSAT-1.

A press release from the Ministry of International Relations says the launch is scheduled to take place on March 5 in Los Angeles, California.

“The milestone marked a significant advancement in Botswana’s space ambitions, as the satellite was expected to provide crucial data for sectors such as mining, agriculture, and urban planning.”

The release says BOTSAT-1 was developed by Batswana engineers from the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST), demonstrating the country’s growing capacity in space technology and its commitment to building a robust space program.

It says during his visit, which ends on March 9, President Boko will tour key facilities including the SpaceX Rocket Production and Starlink mini production sites.

Additionally, President Boko is scheduled to engage in high-level bilateral meetings and trade discussions aimed at attracting foreign direct investment, exploring new markets for Botswana’s products, and promoting the country as a prime tourist destination.

The release says the President is accompanied by Minister of Communications and Innovation Mr David Tshere, Minister of Higher Education Mr Prince Maele, BIUST Vice Chancellor Professor Otlogetswe Totolo and other senior government officials. ENDS
