BTA hosts corporate tennis tournament

The Botswana Tennis Association (BTA) will host the corporate tennis tournament at the National Tennis Centre today (Friday).
The BTA vice president, Nonofo Othusitse, said in an interview that the tournament is aimed at raising funds for critical BTA programmes and events such as the junior tennis initiative, wheelchair tennis and international tennis federation world tennis tour juniors’ events.
He said the registration for a team of six players is P5 000, and the tournament follows the Davis Cup and Billie Jean Cup events formats.
Othusitse said with the junior tennis initiative, they want to provide opportunities for children to pick up a racket for the first time and participate in locally organised competitions and sessions within schools, communities, and tennis venues.
Furthermore with the wheelchair tennis, he said it is a powerful tool for empowerment, inclusion, and opportunity, enabling individuals with disabilities to engage in competitive sport, develop crucial life skills, and represent Botswana on international platforms.
All proceeds from the corporate tennis tournament will directly cover the costs associated with hosting these prestigious events, including equipment, travel, accommodation, and venue expenses.
He said teams would compete in men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles, adding that the event naming rights is P50 000; on court advertising costs P10 000 while stalls and gazebos is P5 000.
Othusitse said the tournament offers numerous benefits and opportunities for participating organisations such as employee wellness, physical health, adding that tennis is a great cardiovascular workout that improves fitness, strength, and flexibility.
He also said playing tennis can reduce stress, improve mood, and enhance mental clarity. Regarding team building, he said tennis doubles matches encourage teamwork and communication and camaraderie whereas regular tennis sessions can foster stronger relationships among colleagues.
He said there is also networking opportunities and the tournament would also benefit in enhancing company culture, brand image and corporate social responsibility (CSR). ENDS
