Watering holes in parks mitigate dry spells conflict

The practice of providing water to wildlife by way of developing watering holes is a management intervention aimed at among other things, mitigating the effects of prolonged dry spells as well as reducing human wildlife conflict.
Minister of Environment and Tourism, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi in Parliament said this on Wednesday, adding that the practice had been undertaken in most of the Game Reserves and National Parks, including Chobe National Park.
Parliament also learnt that there were no permits issued for watering wild animals in communal areas at the Chobe Enclave, and no companies were given permits for purposes of watering animals in the area.
Chobe MP, Mr Simasiku Mapulanga had asked the minister to state the number of permits issued in communal areas at Chobe enclave for watering wild animals and the names of companies given those permits. ENDS
