Matopi-Makalamabedi road completion August

Matopi – Makalamabedi road is due for completion in August 2025, Parliament has learnt.
Assistant Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Keoagile Atamelang said the road project awarded to Estate Construction through an open tender was constructed to the tune of over P264 million, and it commenced on February 2024.
He said the road project had employed 199 people, of which 110 were from local communities, 73 from Matopi, eight from Rakops and Letlhakane respectively and 21 from Makalamabedi. Four employees for the project are professional, 29 are semi-skilled while 77 are unskilled.
Mr Atamelang said there were two sub-contractors involved with materials testing and construction of engineers housing, office and laboratory. He said none of the sub-contractors were from the Boteti region.
The assistant minister was responding to questions asked by Boteti West MP, Mr Sam Digwa, who wanted to know the cost of Matopi-Makalamabedi road project. He wanted to know when the project would be completed, company engaged and the number of community members hired, their professions and skills.
Mr Digwa also wanted to know number of sub-contractors and the number for those from Boteti region. ENDS
