Molotsi pins hope on craft

30 Jan 2025

In the era where most youth are idling and concerned by unemployment and other life challenges, others opt to keep themselves busy with what they are passionate about, talent  being one of them.

Twenty five year-old digital artist, Oboetse Molotsi is one  of those who dont wait for things to happen, but make things happen.  The youngster specialises in cinematic storytelling and fantasy illustrations to build his dream.

Born in Francistown, the lad’s art work focuses on modern and traditional art, often inspired by cinematic movies, cartoons, nature, music and people in general showing surreal digital paintings.

Molotsi does his artwork for commercial purposes as well as showcasing talent, with a variety of products including making cinematic music, animated album covers, t-shirts paintings and animated portraits, among others.

In an interview recently, the youngster trading under brand name, Unicorn Arts Studios, said he aspired to have a studio, which would be the centre workplace where he produced his art works.

“I envision my studio pushing creative boundaries through cutting-edge technology,” he said.

As his artwork requires modern technology with the latest software, Molotsi uses his iLife laptop and XP-Pen graphics tablet.

Though his work has not yet brought so much income, Molotsi is adamant to make it in his craft.

“Right now my art is in the early stages of generating income, but I’m actively working on building my portfolio and audience. I am confident that with time and effort, it will become a sustainable source of income,” he said.

He said he was making ends meet from the few clients who patronised him, depending on the works they wanted, adding that some of his works  such as CD covers, portraits and t-shirts paints earned him around P600 or so depending on the  customers preference.

Most of his patrons were his close circle family members and friends. Though he has not broken much into the public market, he had the opportunity to work with FX Guru and X-Mon who have been key buyers of his products.

Molotsi encouraged his peers to never give up but rather use their talents to create opportunities.

The artist also highlighted the importance of teamwork, which could come handy in exchange of ideas as such  would go a long way in one’s life.

He said sometimes it was wise for one to do something they liked and passionate about, which he as such would help one to unleash their potential.  ENDS
