President Boko courts investors

President Advocate Duma Boko says Botswana’s educated workforce and its strong democratic credentials are key factors that make the country an appealing destination for international investors.
He was speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in a session titled; Meeting of the Partnering Against Corruption Initiative Vanguard, where he presented a compelling case for immediate investment in Botswana.
He emphasised the country’s strategic advantages and reformative agenda as Botswana seeks to attract foreign investors. Further, he articulated a vision for enhanced collaboration between government and the private sector, particularly in the realm of digital infrastructure.
The initiative, he said, aimed to improve service delivery and attract significant foreign capital, reinforcing Botswana’s strategic role in the global economy. President Boko also reiterated his commitment to a zero-tolerance policy on corruption, saying robust governance reforms must be underpinned by effective legislation and strengthened institutional frameworks.
He however, acknowledged challenges posed by entrenched inefficiencies within government institutions that had enabled corruption to fester. He said public trust had waned due to system failures including the collapse of oversight institutions. Such failures, he highlighted, underscored the urgent need for reforms within the public sector.
“These are some of the challenges that we faced, and one gets to now realise that the whole institutional architecture has to be re-thought, re-fashioned, because these institutions cannot work in isolation of the others in society, so it has to be a wholesale re-configuration and re-organisation of the entire institutional architecture of the country,” President Boko said.
