As a security institution that exists to defend Botswana's territorial integrity, sovereignty and national interests, the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) believes in supporting the civilian community it serves.

BDF Commander Lieutenant General Placid Segokgo said this on Friday night at the Sir Seretse Khama Barracks Auditorium during the 31st Presentation of BDF Band In Concert Style, where a total of P120 000 raised by the BDF band was disbursed to four charitable institutions.

Lt Gen Segokgo said the BDF, which had the motto ‘Thebe ya Sechaba’ (Shield of the Nation) emblazoned across its logo, primarily exists to serve the nation, and believe in building public trust.

“Through the BDF Band we take the army to the nation. As an army we cannot live in isolation from the public we serve, we believe in partaking in initiatives that build and serve our nation, and in creating a rapport with our community," Lt Gen Segokgo said.

P30 000 each was donated to the four institutions- the Botswana Association for the Blind and Partially Sighted, Thuto Boswa Rehabilitation Centre, Men and Boys for Gender Equality as well as Camphill Community Trust.

An additional P30 000 was given to the BDF Band, which raised the funds through their BDF Band in Concert Style performances, which having been taking place countrywide, culminating with Friday's grand finale concert before a sold out crowd at the SSKB Auditorium.
