20 Dec 2024

President Advocate Duma Boko has pleaded with nation to serve the country with humility at all times.

President Boko made the plea during a farewell call on December 20 at the Office  of the  President,  by former Permanent Representative of Botswana to the United Nation and other international organisations in Geneva and Ambassador to Switzerland, Dr Athaliah Molokomme.

He said the country’s developmental pathway required all to put aside individual desires and preferences, and focus on the needs of others and the will to serve in whatever way needed.

“This is our country and should give it our all to develop it. The new government is extremely honoured to be ordained with the responsibility to carry on the developmental path,” said President Boko.

He said there was need for all to bring the best of their intellectual resources and energy towards developing the country outside political party lines.

It is against this background that President Boko stated that the current administration was keen on running an inclusive government with no intent to discriminate based on political party alliance or affiliation.

President Boko urged Batswana to stay united and bring the best of their talents to the service of the nation.

He commended Dr Molokomme for the service she rendered to the country in various capacities.

For her part, Dr Molokomme expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve Botswana in different portfolios.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve Botswana and advance the country’s interests abroad and locally and it was such an honour,” Dr Molokomme said.

Meanwhile, in bidding farewell to the outgoing going Japan ambassador to Botswana, Mr Ohmori  Setsui, President Boko said Botswana was grateful for the role Japan played during the digital transformation era.

He said Botswana and Japan enjoyed long standing mutually beneficial relationship dating back to yesteryear which signifies the two country’s continuity on partnership strengthening through cooperation in various fields for prosperity of their citizenry.

“Japan is a world leader in many areas particularly in areas of technology, innovation and digital migration therefore, we are hopeful that Botswana will take a leave from Japan’s success story,” he said.

Similarly, Mr Setsui applauded bilateral partnership between the two countries highlighting that it was a source of strength for both countries that needed to be nurtured for other future endeavors.

These existing, long-standing partnerships between the two countries, which have grown over time, he said were leading examples of the positive benefits of being part of a global community. Ends
