19 Dec 2024
Councillor Thabo Komane is the new Kgatleng District Council chairperson, deputised by Councillor Solomon Letshwiti.
Councillor Komane of Ntshinoge ward defeated Councillor Rutang Mooketsane of Rasesa North with 26 votes against nine while Councillor Letshwiti of Boseja Central amassed 21 votes to clinch the deputy council chairperson position during the council meeting on December 18. Mr Letshwiti was competing against Councillor Goitsemodimo Pitse of Pilane ward, who garnered 14 votes.
Councillor Komane in his acceptance speech thanked councillors for voting for him and emphasised cordial relationship among councillors and Kgatleng District authorities and officials. He pleaded with authorities to embrace change as they had been working with the previous administration for a long time.
“This is a new government and you should brace yourselves for policy changes that we might have to adopt,” he said.
He vowed to ensure that councillors did not interfere in administrative matters and would only concentrate on their work. Councillor Komane urged the council staff to make sure councillors are facilitated accordingly by being furnished with information they request from staff members.
He also promised to serve all the members impartially. He implored the councillors to research more and make meaningful contributions during council business adding that he would issue his roadmap soon and that top in his agenda would be to ensure that the Mochudi storm water drainage master plan was implemented, which was a topical matter in the village and roads, among others.
