Jazz guitarist Kabo Leburu back with Kidi-kaba

08 Dec 2024

Kabo Leburu, a jazz guitarist musician is back with a single titled: Kidi-kaba, after a little break in the public space.

Kidi-kaba, meaning a big chunk of meat, was produced by Charles Motsemme assisted by Leroy Nyoni and recorded at The Village Studios. His friend, Mikael Rosen Swedish music producer and Alejandro Vega also worked on the song.

He has also worked with Dingalo Mpolaise on percussions and Lereko Lesole on bass guitar as well as Tabona Maseko on electric guitar.

Leburu also mentioned that he featured international panpipes talent from Chile, South America as well as other locals who would feature in the next album.

In an interview, he said the lyrics of the song and title was inspired by traditional gatherings. “In the society where I grew up and live, meat brings people together, and in every gathering meat takes centre stage as is liked by many people. When one goes without having had a good share of the serving of meat, it results in displeasure,” Leburu said.

A mechanical engineer by profession, Leburu said he did not have conventional keyboards and acoustic drums when recording this song, but instead used panpipes and percussions.

Leburu’s interest of panpipes goes back to 1992 after a junior secondary school national design and technology exhibition, where he bought the instrument. Although his interest faded away as he grew up, he was encouraged by his mother to play it on this song.

Currently, Leburu said while working on releasing the full album in 2025 around August, he also performs in small gatherings and private corporate functions as he carries on with his mechanical engineer career. Ends
