27 Oct 2024

Kgatleng Central residents have been urged to vote for Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) parliamentary and council candidates in the upcoming general elections.

Launching the candidates, who included parliamentary candidate Mr Mmusi Kgafela in Mochudi on Saturday, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Lemogang Kwape said Mr Kgafela had done exceptionally well during his tenure as Minister of Trade and Industry.

He said as a legislator, Mr Kgafela, showed his knowledge of the Constitution and other pieces of legislation.

Dr Kwape also said the BDP had a track record and managed to develop the country since independence.

He appealed to voters to reject opposition parties, saying they did not have the knowledge and experience to manage the country.

Dr Kwape said the decision to nationalise natural resources was a major factor in development as revenue accrued from minerals had benefited all citizens. He further said it enabled government to build dams in the northern part of the country for the benefit of the southern part.

Dr Kwape also said the just dissolved Parliament was the most productive and that it led to the building of 28 police stations, several hospitals and road infrastructure.

He said the country also stood to benefit from hosting international conferences.

He said the BDP would build industry shells for the youth to venture into business. He said the decision to ban the importation of vegetables has reduced the import bill by P640 million, adding it was also a way of creating employment opportunities.

Furthermore, he said government had not been reckless in its spending, saying it was important for government to purchase Tati land to enable Batswana to own plots.

He said through the new De Beers deal, Botswana would receive P10 billion which would be used for entrepreneurship and skills development. For his part, Mr Kgafela said he was ready for another term.

He said the BDP remained the only party that had the ability to run the country.

Mr Kgafela also said the Milk Afric project had started operating and that two Special Economic Zones had been established .

The Kgatleng Central MP candidate said leaders should be humble and stick to the truth as well as to ask for help.

He said government was concerned about projects which were not completed on time and within budget, adding that he was concerned about the construction of the Makgophana clinic as the contractor had abandoned the site. Ends
