The Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) intends to ignite a learning and skills development revolution that will inspire passion for success as well as restore Batswana’s confidence in self-reliance, says the party’s deputy leader, Mr Ndaba Gaolathe.

Speaking at the launch of UDC Gaborone Central parliamentary candidate, Dr Phenyo Butale, on Saturday Mr Gaolathe said the party was committed to building a new Botswana with a well-run economy.

The current education system, he said, created a generation of social misfits, adding that tertiary education churned out graduates who were unable to solve problems relating to social and technological development.

Mr Gaolathe said when voted in to power, the UDC would invest in vocational training. He said the country should strive to produce well trained graduates with problem solving skills.

Mr Gaolathe pleaded with voters to familiarise themselves with the UDC manifesto, which he said brought hope for a new Botswana.

“It is the UDC’s desire to transform the livelihoods of Batswana and our manifesto presents hope for the hopeless in the drive to restore dignity and pride,” he said.

He said the party would cultivate private sector growth deemed an essential component in the alleviation of poverty and provision of economic opportunities.

Mr Gaolathe stated that one of his party’s main objectives was to offer hope for free self-expression and full participation in the political discourse.

For his part, Dr Butale called on Gaborone Central electorate to believe in his ability as a faithful and reliable individual.

His commitment to serving this constituency, he said, was unparalleled and would go a long way in developing the constituency.

He said he was committed to championing urban tourism through the re-development and repositioning of the main mall as tourism attraction area.

Dr Butale pleaded with electorate to vote UDC in to power during the upcoming elections as it was a stable political party with realistic and attainable targets. ENDS
