President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi welcomes the launch of the United Nations Communities Climate Adaptation Facility (C-CAF), which is designed to provide quick impact grants to affected communities.
He said this during the United Nations Climate Mobility Summit High-Level meeting, held on the sidelines of the just-ended 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States.
The facility is designed to address pressing needs of communities affected by climate change to foster resilience.
To this end, President Masisi highlighted African’s desire for the World Bank and the Green Climate Fund to follow suit and partner with the C-CAF to localise climate financing and support positive transition.
“We will not achieve people’s positive adaptation without the agency of people and their communities,” he said, bidding on the private sector to become a fully-fledged partner providing physical infrastructure, consumer services, data, skills, jobs and finance.
He said in the African continent where most people were young, yet faced dim economic prospects, better livelihoods, and economic future, there was a need for better resilience for their families and communities. BOPA
