Botswana congress eyes Gaborone North 2

23 Sep 2024

The Botswana Congress Party (BCP) is determined to wrest the Gaborone North constituency from the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) in the forthcoming general elections.

This assertion was made by BCP President Mr. Dumelang Saleshando during the launch of prospective parliamentary candidate Mr. Emmanuel Maite over the weekend.

Mr. Saleshando emphasized that voting for the BCP candidate is essential to advance the party’s mission of alleviating the hardships faced by Batswana, which he attributed to years of governance by the ruling party. He proclaimed that a BCP-led government could deliver a new lease of life for the country, driven by an ideology that seeks to re-energize democracy and broaden the foundations upon which Batswana can make informed choices.

“Inspired by the principles of social democracy, the BCP is committed to fostering social and economic development for all citizens,” Mr. Saleshando stated. He highlighted the party’s aim to cultivate growth in the private sector, which he views as crucial to alleviating poverty and providing diverse economic opportunities.

Mr. Saleshando reaffirmed that the BCP is the rightful party to represent the aspirations of Batswana, citing the party’s unity and stability as key elements heading into the next general elections.

He expressed his belief that the BCP genuinely cares for the interests of Batswana, with a commitment to reforming the education system to ensure that all children attend pre-primary schools.

As he rallied support for Mr. Maite, Mr. Saleshando praised the candidate’s leadership skills and his positive contributions to the constituency’s development over the years. “We are fortunate to have devoted leaders like Mr. Maite, who are eager to serve their constituents despite daily challenges,” he remarked.

Mr. Saleshando expressed confidence that Mr. Maite would significantly impact Gaborone North’s economic growth if elected, stressing that he is the right candidate to transform the lives of constituents currently beleaguered by social ills.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Maite vowed to work tirelessly for the betterment of Gaborone North. “This constituency has remained underdeveloped under BDP representation; it will take a determined representative like me to turn our fortunes around and eliminate the social issues we all face,” he asserted.

Should the BCP be voted into power, Mr. Maite committed to advocating for all residents, regardless of party affiliation or social standing. ENDs
