Motshegwa urges voters to re-elect Tshabang

23 Sep 2024

Nkange electorates have been  to re-elect prospective parliamentary candidate Dr Never Tshabang of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) in the  upcoming general elections on October 30.

UDC Secretary General Mr Ketlhalefile Motshegwa made an appeal during the official launch of Dr Tshabang on Saturday in Tutume. Mr Motshegwa said re-election of Dr Tshabang would ensure there was continuity and improved livelihoods.

He  emphasised that if Batswana desired change, it was imperative that they do not vote for the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), which has been in power for 58 years, often failing to fulfill its promises.  “If you want to see a real change, do not be afraid to vote for the UDC. We will deliver on our promises,”  Mr Motshegwa asserted.

He cautioned voters against being misled by the recent upgrade of their sub council to a full district, labeling it a mere deception. “Nothing has changed; the district runs on the same budget allocated to them when they were a sub district. For true development to occur, he said a proper budget was necessary. Mr Motshegwa further highlighted the need for local economic growth, stressing that it hinged on the circulation of money within the community. He pointed out that Small Medium Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) could not  thrive if residents were not earning sufficient wages.

As a l solution, Mr Motshegwa promised that if elected, the UDC would increase the minimum wage to P4 000, thereby boosting buying power and stimulating economic recovery.

Mr Tabona Masole, the UDC council candidate for Mafhungo/Hubona, praised Dr Tshabang’s performance over the past five years as Nkange’s MP, outlining the successful completion of various projects that had stalled under BDP leadership. “Our access roads and connectivity have improved significantly under Dr Tshabang’s oversight,” Mr Masole noted.

He  also commended Dr Tshabang for his commitment to community engagement, particularly his efforts to communicate parliamentary updates in Ikalanga, the local dialect. “It’s important for our elders to understand these discussions in their mother tongue. This kind of leadership shows respect for our culture,” he said.

For his part  Dr Tshabang urged the constituency to unite and vote for him and his 15 councillors to secure a brighter future for Nkange. “Together, we can transform our community,” he stated confidently.

He said the  UDC was eager to leave a mark and bring about the change the Nkange people seek. ENDs
