UDC leader promises improved livelihoods

26 Aug 2024

Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) leader, has urged Batswana to give UDC a chance to lead,  as it would  improve livelihoods through better wages and job creation.

Advocate Duma Boko, who was addressing  a political rally in Shorobe on Friday stated that the UDC cared about the nation’s interests.

He said the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP)’s priorities were misplaced and the party failed to positively impact the lives of Batswana.
Advocate Boko said government should prioritise  issues such as drug shortage in health facilities, maintaining schools infrastructure, resourcing schools with stationery and furniture, instead of purchasing livestock outside the country.

He said teachers’ quarters were in a bad state, which affected  their work.

“This is a clear indication that the ruling party has failed the nation and I call you to shun leaders who are not trustworthy and really do not care about your plight. Vote wisely in October by giving us a chance to address challenges you face,” said Advocate Boko.

He said the UDC had plans to advance the nation, by among other things, increasing old age pension to P1 800, that being a recognition of the role they played in the development of the country.

Other changes, he said, would include a living wage of P4 000. Advocate Boko appealed to residents of Shorobe and surrounding villages to vote for Mr Kebareeditse Ntsogotlho, UDC’s prospctive parliamentary candidate for Maun North and prospective council candidates, saying they understood their challenges better.

Cllr for Matlapana Ward, Mr Kobamelo Baikgodisi also urged Batswana to rally behind UDC in October saying since it had proved  to be the only party that cared for them.

The ruling party, he said, had neglected North West region as evidenced by unmaintained roads.

In addition, he said the community relied on agriculture for survival but the government had failed to address human-wildlife conflict, leading to communities abandoning their ploughing fields and farms.

For his part, Mr Ntsogotlho who is also councillor for Khwai/Mababe Ward urged residents to vote for UDC candidates in the general elections because the party had sound programmes that could positively change their lives. ENDS
