First Lady commends BDP Women wing

Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) Women’s Wing on Saturday received a pat on the back for the good gesture and continuous good will for the development of citizens.

The BDP Women’s Wing under the leadership of chairperson Ms Peggy Serame, who is also Minister of Finance and Economic Development hosted the party’s merchandise launch for expectant women and lactating mothers in Tlokweng.

First Lady Ms Neo Masisi applauded the BDP women for showing commitment to supporting women from all walks of life and said gifting expectant women and nursing mothers  was done out of love and care.

She said she graced the event because the event marked a celebration of motherhood and love. 

Ms Masisi encouraged all women to join forces in the upbringing of their children against all odds and to pass the love and care to future generations.

She also applauded efforts by the BDP women in bringing experts to provide motivation on different aspects affecting women and children.

The party invited Professor Doreen Masire an obstetrician,  Dr Thabiso Mogotsi, paediatrician, Dr Thato Molefhi, clinical psychologist and Dr Thato Ntswaneng a dietician who all voluntarily provided insightful information on their professions.

For her part, Ms Serame commended First Lady for her effortless endeavour in the course of women and children. 

She said Ms Masisi made sacrifices to ensure that women were supported.

She added that the BDP made a commitment to support all women regardless of their political affiliation.

Ms Serame said their party made a pledge that towards the 2024 general election they would recognise expecting mothers by creating special dresses which was a first for her party.

She said BDP membership nationwide had more than 50 per cent women and whatever commitment was made towards women should be indicative of the numbers.

She said by engaging medical experts to provide guidance was in a way providing empowerment to women to take stock of their wellbeing.

Area MP and also Minister of Communications, Knowledge and Technology Mr Thulagano Segokgo said the party had a long history of empowering women.

He said Tlokweng council alone surpassed all other regions in women representation at its chambers.

He said BDP women remained a strong force in the structures of the party and all their efforts should be supported indisputably.

Mr Segokgo commended First Lady for her commitment towards ending GBV and her leading role in efforts to raise a proper boy and girl child.

Other cabinet ministers who graced the occasion are Ms Boitumelo Gofhamodimo, Ms Nnaniki Makwinja and Ms Anna Mokgethi. Ends
