President Masisi appoints new envoys

President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has appointed Major General Mpho  Mophuting and Mr Yandani Boko as Botswana’s new envoys.

A press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Maj. Gen. Mophuting has been appointed ambassador – designate at the Embassy of Botswana in Washington DC, USA.

It says Maj. Gen. Mophuting has a distinguished military career that extends over three decades.

There release says from 2021 to August 2023, Maj. General Mophuting served as Deputy Commander of the Botswana Defence Force, subsequent to his redeployment to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as resident ambassador.

He brings a wealth of expertise and experience that will further the ministry’s diplomatic efforts and commitments to building strong relationships with nations around the world.

The press release says Mr Boko has been appointed consul general designate at the Botswana Consulate in Johannesburg, South Africa.

It says Mr Boko is a seasoned professional with a distinguished tenure as a Member of Parliament.

As MP, Mr Boko was exposed to a plethora of subjects including defence, security and foreign relations.

With his experience, Mr Boko will play a pivotal role in providing consular services, supporting citizens and facilitating trade and investment opportunities in South Africa and other countries of accreditation. Ends
