Ministry nears 100 000 plots allocation target

16 May 2024

Following a target of 100 000 plots allocation set by President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi in June 2022, Ministry of Lands and Water Affairs has  in the 2022/2023 financial year allocated a total of 96 887 residential plots.

A press release from the ministry says the development is a huge milestone that government has ever achieved within a period of two years compared to the previous years.

The press release says each land board has set its own target to contribute towards achieving the 100 000 plot goal.

It says five out of the 12 land boards being Chobe, Ghanzi, Kgalagadi, Rolong and Tati surpassed their set targets.

The ministry allocated 55 720 residential plots in the 2022/2023 financial year, 29 071 allocated in the 2023/2024 financial years while the rest (12 096) residential plots were allocated during the current financial year (from April to May 10).

The press release says in its endeavour to achieve set target the ministry encountered challenges such as contamination of layouts, squatters, low response to invitations and plot reversions by applicants among others.  Ends
