Breeding cattle and goats consignment arrive from Australia
13 May 2024
A consignment of breeding cattle and dairy goats bought from Australia is expected to arrive in the country May 14.
The livestock, expected to arrive at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport at 555am, will be officially received by President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi.
A press release from the Ministry of Agriculture says the consignment, which consists of a variety breeds of beef cattle and dairy goats, will contribute to achievement of the government agenda of increasing the national herd and improvement of its genetic merits.
“This initiative is geared towards the sustained development of our livestock sector and facilitation of an export led industry,” says the press release.
Accordingly, the press release states that the arrival of the Australian breeds will bring genetic variability to the local gene pool and complement last year’s consignment of 161 breeding cattle procured from the United States of America.
Furthermore, the release says the importation of breeding animals is in line with the objective of the recently launched Thuo Letlotlo programme, which aims to develop a sustainable, inclusive and diversified livestock sector. Ends
