Meteorological Services issues heat wave warning

07 Feb 2024

The Department of Meteorological Services advises members of the public that there is a significant increase in temperatures over the country.

A press release from the department states that the heat wave is expected over most parts of the country from February Wednesday to Friday.

Therefore, very hot to extremely hot temperatures of 36 to 40 Degrees Celsius are expected, the statement reads .

“These high temperature conditions are caused by the combination of persistent hot northerly wind flow at the surface and a high pressure system at upper levels.

Despite the prevailing heat wave conditions, thundershowers are still expected in some areas of the country”.

The temperatures are expected to decrease from Saturday, mainly due to cloudy weather conditions and isolated to scattered thundershowers, which are expected to cover most parts of the country.

The department therefore advises members of the public to take precautionary measures to protect themselves from these adverse weather conditions.

These measures may include, among others: drinking more water or any hydrating fluids, avoiding prolonged stay under the sun, if at all possible stay under the shade and wearing wide-brimmed hat or umbrella.

The department monitor this significant increase in temperatures, and updates the public accordingly. ENDS
