28 Sep 2023

Rakops Sub-land Board intends to allocate about 950 residential plots in the 2023/24 financial year.

Boteti Council chairperson Mr Molemi Galeragwe said during the council session held in Letlhakane on Thursday that the total residential application list at Rakops Sub-landboard stood at 6 495, adding that the sub-landboard had acquired 60.207 hectares of the 68.3 hectares of targeted area.

He said 40.57 hectares of the acquired land was for Motopi whilst 19.75 was acquired from Mmadikola village.

Assessment of properties affected, he said, was completed on August 4 in Motopi whilst in Mmadikola, assessment was completed on August 27 and valuation report was being finalised at Ngwato Land Board for submission at the Department of Lands for compensation.

He stated that base maps for Mopipi, Toromoja, Mmadikola and Xere villages had been prepared and submitted to council for layout design.

The sub-land board, he said, had commenced village expansion consultations with the leadership of Makalamabedi, Moremaoto, Khumaga and Rakops during the month of July and kgotla meetings for the remaining villages of Xere, Toromoja, Xhumo, Mmadikola and Mopipi had been put on hold until the appointment and orientation of new board members.

He said survey of layouts, which yielded 2 120 and 237 plots for Xhumo and Khumaga was completed in May and was pending approval by Department of Surveys, Mapping and Registration at Deeds Registry before allocation in the Land Information System.

Mr Galeragwe said the sub-land board had managed to register 207 secure land titles out of 220 ladges or conveyanced with the Deeds Registry from plans; 77 from Rakops, 88 Xere and 42 from Moremaoto.

He said to date 28 registered deeds of customary land rights had been issued to land rights owners at Moremaoto, 57 in Rakops whilst there were no issuance for Xere yet.

He said production of the deeds of customary land grants was moving at a snails’s pace countrywide due to the system’s teething problems, noting that very few general plans had been approved by the Department of Surveys and Mapping. Ends
