Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) chairpesron, Mr Motlatsi Molapisi has urged electorates at Mmaphula East Ward in Palapye to vote for the party’s council candidate, Mr Mompoloki Mohutsiswa in the bye-election scheduled for Saturday.
Mmaphula East Ward council seat fell vacant after the death of councillor Gagoope Sebina of Botswana Democratic Party in April.
Addressing a rally on Saturday, to launch Mr Sebina, Mr Molapisi who is also Botswana People Party president appealed to residents to ensure the party won the seat it lost in the 2019 general elections.
“I implore you to vote for Mr Mohutsiwa because he is the only one who has your interests at heart. He is capable, patient, responsible and a compassionate person who loves to assist others,” stated Mr Molapisi.
He said the BDP failed to fulfill its promises and cited lack of employment especially among youth and shortage of drugs in health facilities as a sign that the BDP failed Batswana.
Selebi Phikwe West MP, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse said BDP had not improved the living standard of Batswana, adding that wages of the working class were very low compared to other countries.
Mr Keorapetse said corruption was adversely affecting the country’s economy.
He said UDC was the only party to replace the BDP which was marred with corruption allegations while UDC had good and sound policies and programmes. He appealed to the electorates to send Mr Mohutsiwa to council.
Palapye MP, Mr Onnetse Ramogapi described Mr Mohutsiwa as a responsible family man who would work hard to advance the ward.
For his part, Mr Mohutsiwa promised to advocate for developments in the area saying the ward was lagging behind. He said he was concerned about bad roads, lack of drugs in health facilities and unemployment. ENDS
