28 Mar 2023

Botswana’s success story is due to good governance and sound policies of Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) led government.

Speaking during BDP’s Kokong/Morwamosu victory celebration recently, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Talitah Monnakgotla said the good governance and policies resulted in investment and accumulation of wealth.

She said the BDP-led government had successfully delivered economic development, hence the party deserved to be re-elected in the 2024 general elections.

Ms Monnakgotla who is also Kgalagadi North Member of Parliament said Botswana’s prudent financial system and resource management earned the country accolades and made it one of the most prosperous democratic states in Africa.

She said BDP government would continue to utilise financial resources diligently and employ cost containment measures where necessary, ensure key developments and services reach Batswana at all times.

She said the country’s decentralisation policy being implemented through local authorities at city/district/town councils level; land boards; and tribal administrations had enhanced participatory developmental approach as well as bringing services closer to the people.

She cited upgrading of sub-districts into full-fledged districts as a process that would bring services closer to the people.

She said upgrading of Mabutsane into a full district meant that services were now closer to constituents.

She said another example was the country’s good relations with Namibia that led to the citizens of the two countries using identity cards to cross the border, noting such efforts deserve applause.

At the same occasion, the party’s political education and elections committee chairperson, Mr Alec Seametso called on  democrats to work in unison to ensure the party won in the 2024 general elections with a huge margin.

He said it was paramount to respect electorates’ decision and respect those elected into power, adding election results represented the wishes of the people.

He said those who won deserved to be celebrated hence Kokong/Morwamosu victory celebration.

He said BDP recognised excellence and believed the best candidates should represent the party so as to take the country to another level.

He said all democrats were equal and inclusiveness was key as the country forged forward in its quest to serve the best interests of Batswana.
Mr Seametso said BDP was the only party capable of serving  national interest.

On other issues, he warned democrats to be cognizant of issues that had potential to cause disunity and instability in the party, noting such needed to be uprooted.

For his part, Jwaneng/Mabutsane branch chairperson, Mr Olefile Ramakoloi encouraged democrats to continue to work in unison for a better BDP.

He thanked all who helped the party emerge victorious in the 2019 general elections, noting the party found it fit to celebrate the win after COVID-19 disruptions. BOPA
