Recruitment critical to 2024 election victory - Masisi
28 Aug 2022
President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has urged the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) to continue strengthening its structures through recruitment.
Addressing the 39th BDP National Congress in Tsabong Saturday he said, “We need to strengthen our structures and focus on the recruitment of new members as we prepare ourselves for victory in 2024. This BDP victory must come with gains in the wards.”
Dr Masisi told the more than 1 000 delegates from the country’s 57 constituencies that BDP needed all its members to be successful.
He asked them to be circumspect in their differences always knowing that they were not enemies but colleagues.
Dr Masisi explained that from its inception 60 years ago, the BDP had cherished the ideals of participatory democracy both at intra and inter party levels.
“As the BDP, our role is to pursue equality, justice, liberty, solidarity, peace, political, economic and social progress and prosperity for Batswana.
That is the glue that binds us together and, if maintained, will allow us to consolidate our position as the leading political force second to none in Botswana,” said the President.
Dr Masisi expressed confidence that the party would beat every challenge ahead including the 2024 general elections.
The BDP welcomed a number of new members into its fold including Selebi Phikwe mayor, Mr Lucas Modimana, a former Botswana Congress Party member.
Another recruit is Mr Emmanuel Orateng from Botswana Patriotic Front.
Held at Tsabong Unified School, the congress was also attended by representatives of regional political organisations such as Mozambique’s FRELIMO, ZANU PF of Zimbabwe, Namibia’s SWAPO, the Africa National Congress of South Africa and Zambia’s United Party for National Development. ENDS
