Regoeng calls for upholding of five national principles

15 Aug 2022

Democrats have been urged to uphold and preserve five national principles; democracy, development, self-reliance, unity and Botho that have characterised post-independence Botswana for Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) to soar to greater heights.

When addressing members over the weekend at the Kanye South branch congress ahead of the BDP national elective congress billed for Tsabong later this month, Molepolole North MP, Mr Oabile Regoeng argued that over the years they helped the party to bring numerous developments to Batswana.

Therefore, Mr Regoeng said it was imperative for the upcoming national elective congress to also be anchored on the five national principles. He said upholding such principles would help the party to have a national elective congress, where free and fair elections would be held.

He said party interests should take precedence over individual interests to assist in the party’s preparation for the 2024 general elections. Mr Regoeng said it was important for the party to retain all constituencies and wards won in the previous elections and snatch all that were still under opposition.

He told democrats that a strong central committee would ensure that the party wins the 2024 general elections with large and convincing margins.

For his part, Kanye South branch chairperson, Mr Gaofengwe Nthai urged democrats to vote for responsible people with capabilities to add value to the party leadership and implored them to look beyond Tsabong congress.

He said they were mandated to sell the goodwill and reputation of the party.

Eight delegates were selected to represent Kanye South constituency at the national elective congress, which will elect new party central committee members.

In addition to the above number, Kanye South branch chairperson and secretary, four observers, nine councillors, constituency information officer, who is a member of BDP’s National Youth Executive Committee and area MP will partake in the upcoming national elective congress as constituency representatives. ends
