08 Aug 2022

The new Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) youth wing chairperson has promised robust and intensified preparations for the party ahead of the 2024 general elections.

Speaking in an interview at the 39th BDP youth wing congress in Bobonong over the weekend, Mr Collen Mochotlhi from Tlokweng constituency, said as the new chairperson, he would advance BDP policies and strategies as well as preach the good that the party had been doing for Batswana.

He highlighted that one of his priorities during his tenure would be looking into issues that hindered youth from accessing government programmes.

Lack of land for youth businesses, the new chairperson said, would also be one of the issues he wanted to address.

Mr Mochotlhi was voted by 213 people while his contender, Mr Tina Tameti was voted by 175.

Mr Abednico Mafika won the treasury position against Theo Mangoye.

Meanwhile political education and elections committee chairperson, Mr Alec Seametso said everything was smooth and the elections were fair.

He said out of the 457 eligible voters only 388 voted and there were no spoilt votes. ENDs
