VP urges democrats to vote in numbers

24 Jul 2022

The ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) members for Moselewapula ward have been urged to vote in large numbers at the bye election slated for July 30.

Launching Mr Ngwisiwa Ntogwa as the party’s candidate on Friday in Francistown, chairperson Mr Slumber Tsogwane implored the electorate to retrace their steps and repeat the 2019 general elections victory.

He said in voting they should be considerate of what the ruling party was doing to improve the lives of Batswana.

He noted that the BDP- led government had transformed the country from the least developed to a vibrant economy, upholding peace, Botho and tolerance of divergent political views.

He said just like other organisations, BDP had its share of differences, which the membership amicably resolved.

Furthermore, Mr Tsogwane stated that the candidate was a well-known artiste, who had stood firm in promoting Botswana culture through his music, saying voting him would be an inspiration to other artistes as well as young people.

“Let us take Ntogwa to council to be the voice of young people and the arts,” he said. He warned that failing to vote in numbers would lead to a repeat of past council bye elections, which saw the BDP losing to the opposition.

For his part, Francistown West branch chairperson, Mr Otto Masogo also urged the democrats and residents of Moselewapula to vote for the BDP candidate, adding that it was the only way to aid BDP to continue changing the lives of Batswana.

He said for the residents had been relocated from flood-prone Masemenyenga and Somerset because BDP had their best interest at heart, adding that in a short space of time after relocation, services were brought closer to them to enjoy like any other citizens. He further noted that more developments were being brought, as such it was logical to vote for and let BDP continue serving them.

For his part, Mr Ntogwa said he had been vocal in promoting Botswana and raising the country’s flag to the world. Through his traditional music he has helped other artistes to earn their strides and this, he said, had been possible because of the BDP government.

He, therefore, urged fellow residents to vote for him so that he could  continue to be an inspiration to others and be their voice at the council and beyond. ends
