Boko Chimbombi at BNF helm

Advocate Duma Boko has retained his position as Botswana National Front (BNF) leader.

He received 956 votes against Dr Baatlhodi Molatlhegi’s 67 during the party elective congress over the holidays.

In his acceptance speech on Tuesday July 19, Advocate Boko promised to work well with the new central committee.

“I am grateful of my re-election and promise to work with other party members in humility and respect. I accept that I am not perfect, but help us to accomplish and transform Botswana,” he said.

He further said in the move to attain power, BNF was ready to implement a value proposition that would see Batswana in a better position than now; deal with problems of unemployment, health and land that were a concern for many.

Dr Micus Chimbombi was unopposed for the deputy leader position. Other unopposed candidates were Mr Moses Samson for international affairs, Mr Victor Phologolo for labour secretary and Ms Joyce Medupe for economic affairs.

Dr Patrick Molutsi beat Mr Moses Bantsi 694 against 306 for party chairmanship, whilst Mr Ketlhalefile Motshegwe defeated long time serving incumbent Mr Moeti Mhwasa with 639 against 369 votes for secretary general position.

Mr Andrew Motsamai took the health secretary by 547 votes beating Ms Irene Modisenyane and Mr Philipine Mokubung who got 369 and 58 votes respectively.

Mr Nelson Ramaotwana and Mr Justin Hunyepa retained their positions of deputy secretary general and information and publicity secretary respectively beating Dr Nelson Sello and Mr Kago Mokotedi.

Professor Motsumi Marobela took charge of political education after beating Mr Shawn Nthaile with 757 against 215, whilst Mr Noah Salakae won treasure general position by 669 votes beating Masego Segokgo and Mr Gilbert Watshipi who garnered 269 and 66 respectively.

Newly elected secretary general, Mr Motshegwa said he was looking to review the party constitution to bring it in tandem with contemporary trends, have strong administration, establish functional regional offices with full time employees as well as establish internal control measures to ensure organisational good governance.
