Botswana National Front leader calls for unity

19 Jul 2022

Members of the Botswana National Front (BNF) have been called upon to remain steadfast on the party’s ideals amid internal misunderstandings.

Officially opening the BNF’s national congress in Gaborone on Sunday, party president Advocate  Duma Boko said tensions inside the BNF should not tear the party apart.

Members should instead sail with ease through trials and storms brewed by internal and external forces, he said.

He further called for cooperation and unity among  party members and cautioned them to desist from airing their dirty linen in public as it destabilised the party.

“That one substandard link may cause the chain to break, as the other strong links may be cut when put under pressure,” said  Advocate Boko.

He said the party executive needed members’ support, perseverance and resilience in order to carry out its mandate.

The BNF leader applauded the party’s central committee members for showing commitment to achieving its mandate despite challenges.

Advocate Boko said the BNF would continue in the struggle to emancipate Batswana from unemployment and more recently, the trafficking and killing of children.

He said from inception, the BNF had under different leaders steered the course of liberation for the masses.

The party had also strived to unite all like-minded political organisations in Botswana under the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC).

Batswana, he said, had been experiencing unprecedented political, social and economic regression which had negatively impacted their lives.

With UDC, they could fight such challenges, said the BNF leader.

He said the party was committed to listening to the people’s  pleas with regard to the likes of youth unemployment and stagnant social grants for the elderly.

Advocate Boko promised to address such issues through practical and tangible solutions.

Meanwhile, he has vehemently condemned rising incidents of ritual killings and Gender-Based Violence (GBV).BOPA
