The SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM)forces have launched an offensive operation against Al Sunnah wa Jama’ah (ASWJ) terrorists who attacked Matemo Island  rtecently.

A press statement from SAMIM says the terrorists believed to be led by one of their top leaders lost ground after suffering massive casualties while others incurred serious injuries.

SAMIM confirms that it inflicted about eight fatalities against the terrorists and recovered weapons and equipment used by the terrorists.

The statement says the offensive operations, which are on-going, are expected to root out all elements of terrorism in the Motemo and Ibo Islands.

It further says the SAMIM will continue working jointly with Forcas Armandas de Defesa de Mocambique (FADM) forces and also collaborate in other areas to ensure safety of the Mozambican people is guaranteed.

 The release states that SAMIM will always act in a professional and dignified manner in conducting its operations.

It says in support of  Mozambique, SAMIM forces continue to create conditions necessary for a return to normal life in the province of Cabo Delgado.

SAMIM has assured the people of Mozambique and SADC of a collective commitment to achieving a peaceful, stable and secure Carbo Delgabo province as well as the entire Mozambique. Ends
