Four-person Parliament delegation off to Indonesia

 A parliamentary delegation leaves tomorrow for Indonesia to attend the 144th assembly of the Inter Parliamentary Union and related meetings at the country’s resort area of Nusa Dua.
  According to a National Assembly news release, the delegation will be led by the Speaker, Mr Phandu Skelemani.“The meeting is scheduled to take place from March 20-24 under the theme ‘‘getting to Zero: Mobilising Parliaments to act on Climate Change,’’ says the release.
It says the meeting is expected to discuss and adopt draft resolutions on different topics such as rethinking and reframing the approach to peace processes with a view to fostering lasting peace.
Also on the meeting’s agenda is a discussion on leveraging information and communication technology as an enabler for the education sector as well as a debate on Parliamentary impetus to the development of countries with high levels of international migration and to stopping all forms, including state-sponsored, of human trafficking and human rights abuses.
“Other meetings the delegation is scheduled to attend include; a panel discussion on leveraging parliamentary budgeting powers for children, never again – strengthening health security preparedness during COVID-19 recovery and beyond and a workshop on engaging for universal ban on nuclear tests,” says the release.
There will also be a panel discussion on international cooperation to prosecute corruption and recover stolen assets.
The release says one of the delegates, Lentsweletau/ Mmopane MP, Ms Nnaniki Makwinja will also participate in the meetings of the 33rd session of the Forum of Women Parliamentarians.
The session, explains the release, will hold a panel discussion on: ‘Parliamentary experiences in promoting women’s, children’s and adolescents’ health in the time of COVID-19 and in recovering from the pandemic’.
Other members of the delegation are Leader of the Opposition, Mr Dumelang Saleshando and MP for Kumakwane-Thamaga, Mr Palelo Motaosane.
  They are expected back on March 26.ENDS
