Ministry issues warning on batches of Tsabana Malutu products

The Ministry of Health and Wellness requests members of the public not to consume certain Tsabana and Malutu products, which are reported to have a bitter taste and lumpy (cakey) texture.

A media release from the ministry states that  preliminary investigation indicates no food safety concerns and further investigations are ongoing.

According to the release, the ministry has advised the manufacturer of the sorghum soya blend products to address the issue and the public is advised not to consume the affected batches of the products.

The release says the affected Tsabana product can be identified by the batch numbers which range from 1038, 1437,2014, 2042 and 2241, production dates varying around September 9 to October 25, 2021 with expiry dates which range from February 8 to 25, 2022.

It further says the affected Malutu product can be identified by the batch numbers which range from 0052, 1301, 1302, 0840 and 2146, production dates varying around October 5 to December 7, 2021 with expiry dates which range from February 2 to April 7, 2022.

“The Ministry of Health and Wellness will continue to collaborate with all stakeholders including the manufacturer, to monitor the situation and give regular updates, in accordance with the Food Control (Food Safety Alerts and Recall Procedures) Regulation, SI 198 of 2018,” the release  says. ENDS
