UDC unveils Moipolai for Ledumadumane

31 Jan 2022

Members of the opposition block have been urged to work hard and in unison to wrestle power from the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).

Botswana National Front Deputy President Mr Prince Dibeela said this when unveiling the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) council candidate for the upcoming Ledumadumane East by-election slated for February 5.

Mr Dibeela said the by-election was a dress rehearsal for the opposition’s performance at the 2024 general elections.

He therefore urged followers to work hard by doing house-to-house campaigns, constantly monitoring the voters’ roll as well as carrying out recruitment drive campaigns.

When presenting the candidate Mr Simon Moipolai, he indicated that the candidate was not a newcomer to politics as he was a councillor before in the same ward. Mr Moipolai was Ledumadumane East councillor in 2009 before he rejoined his former employer at Water Utilities Corporation where he had worked for 26 years.

Mr Dibeela stated that Mr Moipolai was an active community leader and vocal representative.

Other speakers at the launch spoke highly of Mr Moipolai, and emphasised that indeed he was a true leader who has worked tirelessly to inspire developments within his community.

One of the speakers Mr Mozambia Dibe described Mopolai as a dependable, authentic leader who contributed to a lot of development initiatives to Ledumadumane.

MP for Jwaneng/Mabutsane Mr Mephato Reatile cautioned members of the cooperating parties in the opposition to guard against talking ill of the party leadership and focus on coming up with ways of unseating the ruling party from power.

MP for Selibe Phikwe west Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse said their council candidate would advocate an executive council where decisions were decentralised and councils were autonomous.

For his part Mr Moipolai said he accepted the responsibility entrusted upon him by the constituents.

He appealed to Ledumadumane East residents to vote for him in large numbers.

He assured that he was the right candidate as he had already started initiating developments in the ward that included grading of roads and facilitating critical services to come nearer to the people. ENDS
