Botswana education system sound - Tsogwane
06 Dec 2021
Botswana has made tremendous progress in education to support economic growth and diversification.
Vice President Slumber Tsogwane said this during a Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) campaign rally for the Lorolwane ward by-election candidate, Ms Boitumelo Seakgo in the village recently.
He said the country’s high literacy rate attested to a good education system.
Mr Tsogwane who is also party chairman, said the BDP-led government had developed systems to ensure provision of quality education.
“All children have the right to education, thus we promote equal access through free quality education,” he said.
He said government had also introduced inclusive programmes tailor-made to improve the lives of all citizens.
Mr Tsogwane noted that opposition members were also benefiting from the education system and wondered why some were hell bent on condemning something they continued to reap from.
The vice president praised the BDP the leadership for driving the country towards a knowledge-based economy.
He encouraged Lorolwane residents, especially People Living with Disabilities, to utilise government programmes to better their lives.
On other issues, Mr Tsogwane spoke of the need for Botswana to maintain adequate foreign exchange reserves for payment of imports as well as other international obligations.
Mr Tsogwane appealed to voters to retain BDP in power given its corruption-fighting endeavours.
He lamented that corruption diverted funds from deserving Batswana to unscrupulous individuals.
For his part, the party’s political elections committee chairman, Mr Alec Seametso, encouraged democrats to rally behind their candidate for the by-election slated for December 18.
He said that would ensure that developments were brought to the area.
Voting for the BDP in the by-election would ensure a harmonious working relationship between the council representative and area MP as the two would be from one party, he said.
Mr Seametso said it took sound leadership to protect people from COVID 19, pointing out that currently most of the country’s eligible people were vaccinated.
Ms Seakgo emerged victorious in the party’s primary elections after garnering 154 votes against Mr Mogopodinyane Tsiripane’s 143 vand Mr Tshotlego Phologolo’s 97.
Seven people were welcomed into the party.BOPA
