BCP policies to move party forward

02 Nov 2021

Following its sixth elective congress that was held virtually over the weekend, Botswana Congress Party (BCP), will continue using its existing policy and regulatory documents such as the 2019 party manifesto, the constitution and other strategy documents to guide the party going forward.

BCP Information and Publicity Secretary, Prof. Mpho Pheko said in an interview that under the prevailing circumstances that do not allow for mass gatherings the party did not hold plenary sessions hence the party did not make any resolutions.

She however stated that the constitutional conference would be held in the foreseeable future and would be used to come up with  resolutions that would guide the party going forward.

She stated that although costly, holding a virtual conference was a major achievement for the party and it showed commitment to the democratic practices of ensuring that office bearers were duly elected.

“There are no major issues except that we could not attend to plenaries, resolutions nor the mandate to execute a constitutional conference,” she stated.

New office bearers are the party president, Mr Dumelang Saleshando who stood unopposed, and Prof. Pheko was unopposed in her position of information and publicity secretary.

Other office bearers are the party deputy president, Mr Taolo Lucas, chairperson, Mr Samuel Rantuana, Secretary General Mr Goretetse Kekgonegile, Deputy Secretary General, Ms Tebogo Molefe and Treasure, Mr Oral Mosedame. Office bearers’ tenure is five years. Ends
