BOMU to announce awards nominees
28 Aug 2021
Botswana Music Union (BOMU) will announce awards nominees on Wednesday (September 1).
In a press release, the union’s consultant, Seabelo Modibe, says the announcement follows submission of music work from artistes who will compete in 30 categories.
Modibe says the announcement of nominees, which will be streamed live on Botswana Television, will also be partially virtual with a limited number of guests.
Awards categories, he says, will include artist of the year, song of the year, best new comer, best collaboration, best international achievement, best album, best female and best male awards, among others.
Modibe, who is also the Total Music Group managing director, says adjudicators have already finished adjudicating the process.
“A panel of nine judges has just concluded the adjudication process and we are now proceeding to reveal who made it into the next leg,” he says.
He says judges, who were working independently, have also confirmed that the competition will be tight since artistes have submitted incredible pieces of work from 2019 to date.
On one hand, BOMU president, Phemelo Lesokwane said in an interview that they were excited and looking forward to knowing who had made it to the final round.
Lesokwane said musicians continued to work hard, therefore the awards would certainly be great reward for them.
Lesokwane also said the awards were worthwhile, especially during the difficult time of the COVID 19 pandemic. BOPA
