Poacher dies in fire fight

The Botswana Defence Force (BDF) says one poacher was killed during an engagement with its patrol team on Monday.
In a media statement, the BDF says the incident happened in the morning of August 9 about 13 kilometers from Ditshiping.
The incident involved a fire fight with armed poachers’ believed to be part of a network responsible for cross border poaching, explains the statement.
It says among the tools of trade discovered at the scene was a 375 hunting rifle, commonly used for killing large game.
The statement reveals that organised poaching of big game such as rhinoceros and elephants, especially in the Okavango Delta, continues to threaten Botswana’s fauna.
BDF remains resolute in its quest to eliminate the threat, it says. ends
