DIS restructuring affects divisions
24 Sep 2020
There has only been a change of personnel deployed to former president Lt. Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama and not withdrawal or reduction of his security detail, a Directorate of Intelligence and Security Services (DIS) press release has explained.
Saying the directorate has been inundated with enquiries from the media on allegations that the organisation has either withdrawn or reduced the former president’s security detail, the release says the change of personnel was due to an ongoing DIS restructuring exercise which has affected all its divisions.
The strength of personal protection detail deployed to the former president has not been affected by this development, it says.
The release further explains that personal protection of former presidents is provided for under the Intelligence and Security Service Act and any action taken outside the legislation would be unlawful.
It urges members of the public to disregard allegations suggesting ill treatment of Lt. Gen. Khama by the directorate. Ends
