Residents call for upgrading of Rakops hospital
23 Jan 2013
Rakops residents have called on government to upgrade the village's primary hospital as it does not cope with demand.
Ms Bashingi Boingotlo, the Village Development Committee member, said during a kgotla meeting addressed by Boteti North MP, Mr Slumber Tsogwane on Tuesday that the hospital acted as a referral from clinics in the 10 villages in Boteti west administration area hence the need to upgrade hospital facilities. With an increased population in the area, Ms Boingotlo said the situation had led to congestion.
The acting matron at the hospital, Ms Sheila Mompati said the hospital could not adequately service the community in the area due to limited resources and space.
The hospital has 18 beds to cater for all patients.
However, Ms Mompati said they were doing their best to provide services to the residents.
Ms Mompati also said they were disturbed by constant power cuts experienced in the village adding that the situation was worsened by the fact that their backup generator required regular maintenance. ENDS
