The University of Botswana and Australia’s University of Adelaide recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

A press release from UB says the MoU was signed in Australia by UB’s research and development director, Professor Graham Hall and Professor Pascale Quester, who is deputy vice chancellor and vice president (academic).

The release says the University of Botswana is the first in Africa to sign a MoU with the University of Adelaide and is a culmination of 12 months of liaison between Professor Hall and University of Adelaide’s dean of veterinary and animal sciences, Professor Wayne Hein.

Through the MoU, the release says the two universities will cooperate on a number of areas such as student and staff exchange programmes, joint research activities and funding applications as well as collaborative degree programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

The release also states that the two universities further agree to provide access to facilities for PhD and Masters students as well as staff members besides exchange of publications, academic materials and other information.

It further states that researchers at the University of Adelaide are already working with researchers at the Okavango Research Institute (ORI) on several research projects and will be bringing Australian students to Maun mid-year for a series of short courses including epidemiology and wildlife anaesthesia.

 University of Botswana students are also being sought to participate in the courses.

The University of Adelaide is one of the prestigious eight ‘Sandstone’ universities in Australia. It was voted the university with the best veterinary school in Australia in 2019 and is rated highly as a research-intensive campus. ENDS
