Police issue non compliance warning
23 Mar 2020
Botswana Police Service (BPS) says it is ready and will not hesitate to enforce government precautionary measures against COVID-19.
In a press release, BPS says the organisation has observed with concern that some individuals, businesses, churches, social and cultural entities are not taking the precautionary measures seriously and continue to behave in a manner that is likely to frustrate government efforts in the fight against the pandemic.
“The Botswana Police Service wishes to sound a warning that the police shall be in full force to ensure compliance and attainment of safety for the people,” says the release.
It says the organisation has therefore cancelled leave taking of officers.
BPS advises the public to observe all announced preventative measures including liquor trading hours, social distancing, travel, gathering bans and all others intended to keep people safe.
It warns that failure to observe the precautionary measures is a transgression of the law that attracts serious penalties adding that appropriate action shall be taken against all those who fail to abide by the measures.
However, BPS expresses appreciation for steps already taken by individuals and organisations in compliance with government directives in the fight against coronavirus.ends
