Office of the President (OP) has expressed concern and disappointment at the contents of a Sunday Standard Newspaper article of February 16 – 23 headlined “Botswana: a Chinese and Russian Mafia Haven – UK Report.”An OP media release says the article is misleading and devoid of the truth especially it is based on outdated information as has been confirmed by the Intelligent Protection International Limited Company quoted by the newspaper. 

Furthermore and for the record, the release says, the information has been updated by the same company, as such the said article only works to tarnish Botswana’s good reputation, image and relations with the international community. 

It says the public is also reminded that contrary to the misleading article, Botswana is a country that upholds the rule of law and democratic values that promote good governance.  

On peace and related matters, the release says Botswana continues to rank high on the Global Peace Index.

For example, in 2019 in the global ranking of peacefulness, Botswana was ranked 30 out of 163 independent states and territories and second in sub-Saharan Africa out of 44 countries, says the release.
