Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) has suspended maintenance works at the Glen Valley waste water treatment plant to pave way for investigations into the death of two workers.

According to a media release from WUC, two men aged between 22 and 48 years originating from Zimbabwe, lost their lives on January 15 while on duty at the plant.

The incident involved four people, but the other two men survived and were currently receiving treatment at a health facility.

The incident was reported to have occurred at the ongoing maintenance works at the treatment plant, whose objective was to improve waste water treatment and odour suppression in Gaborone.

According to a press statement, the project is outsourced to a contractor and the incident involved the sub-contractor’s team members, who were working on one of the valve chambers.

The release further states that the names of the deceased persons were still withheld pending notification of family members by the relevant authorities. ENDS
