29 Aug 2013
Chairperson of Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and MP for Lobatse, Mr Nehemiah Modubule left for Arusha, Tanzania on August 28 to attend the SADCOPAC office bearers and governing council meetings.
A press release from the National Assembly stated that Mr Modubule, who is also deputy secretary general of SADCOPAC will be joined by other PAC members, Messrs Kagiso Molatlhegi of Gaborone South, Prince Maele of Tswapong North, Isaac Mabiletsa of Kgatleng East and Moiseraele Goya of Palapye for the meeting scheduled for August 30 to September 1.
The meeting would also mark the 10th anniversary of SADCOPAC and witness an official launching of African Organisation of Public Accounts Committees (AFROPAC).
During the 9th SADCOPAC annual conference which was held in Mpumalanga, South Africa, members from three organisations EAAPAC, SADCOPAC and WAAPAC declared that the leadership of SADCOPAC together with WAAPAC and EAAPAC initiate earnest discussions towards the realisation or establishment of AFROPAC in the next 18 months.
The objectives for the establishment of an AFROPAC were to improve cooperation among member countries in relation to parliamentary oversight, in spite of differing political, economic and social systems. The other objective was to create a structure where members could network with the view to sharing best practices, and, where appropriate, harmonising and standardising the work of PAC in Africa.
The other objectives was to strengthen the capacity of PACs to effectively fulfil their mandate through structured capacity building initiatives as well as to foster strong, mutually beneficial relations between PACs and SAIs, just to mention a few. Ends
