BDP only party with Batswana interest
20 Oct 2019
Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) leader and President of Botswana, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi says Batswana should not vote for the opposition.
Addressing a rally in Sebina recently, Dr Masisi said the BDP remained the only party in the country that had the interests of Batswana at heart. He said since independence, the ruling BDP had proved to be the only party capable of developing Batswana as per its promises.
He warned Batswana to brace themselves for a deficit if they voted the opposition into power. Dr Masisi appealed to Shashe West constituents to vote for Mr Fidelis Molao and BDP councillors in order to retain the constituency which had never been in the hands of the opposition. He told the electorates that Mr Molao had proved to be a capable leader who since being elected had changed Shashe West constituency in terms of developments.
Dr Masisi said the party had done a lot in developing Batswana despite challenges.
He said the BDP led government looked to its relationships with other countries to address challenges, citing Botswana’s bilateral relations with China.
The fruits of the relationship, he said, would enable government to construct a railway line connecting Mosetse to Kazungula as a way of boosting regional trade. President Masisi noted that the Kazungula Bridge was nearing completion and would add value to the economy of the country. He said government had identified installation of a fiber optic network for internet connectivity and marketing.
For his part, Mr Molao said government was working overtime to address the problem of water shortage in Shashe West constituency, further revealing that plans were underway to make Sebina a sub-district.
He said the BDP deserved to be voted back into power to continue with its mandate of developing Batswana, adding that voting for the opposition would be a drawback.
Other speakers at the rally appealed to the electorate to work hand in hand with the party leadership in order to ensure a BDP victory in the October 23 general elections. ends
